Month 1 at P&G — things I love here❤

After the rollercoaster ride my career put me on, this place feels like a kick-off journey to a bright future.

For someone who read ‘The Culture Code’ recently, P&G is a great example of the fruits of its execution. I thoroughly enjoy the boards around the campus. Building an org wise spirit is usually tougher than building team wise spirit. Here, I can see everyone going by P&G first and then team’s style next.

The company’s culture for its people and ethics is embedded in minds, processes and most of the walls.

My Desktop Wallpaper❤:

Ethics and Doing The Right Thing is a crucial thing here. So crucial, one can be terminated when found with the first deviation ONLY.

P&G’s Optimal Budgeting Mentality:

  • So far, I have observed that the spending style of P&G over all is very optimized and modest. (A “dream” company I worked for, which laid off people left and right, a popular PIP culture and is known for its toxic culture and layoffs🤮 but provides the fanciest offices with lavish spending is my touchstone for this comparison)
  • P&G doesn’t have fancy desks which adjust to the height. They have different desks placed at different corners. Modest number of cubicles. Functional and ergonomic chairs. Most of the spaces inside the offices are used and are #optimally serving for everyone’s needs.❤ However, by now I can attest that P&G would make decisions on ‘need basis’ and not ‘show off’ basis :) ❤
  • P&G has UNIFORM!. I can hear divas and ‘I am a rider, provider’ type of people screaming but this is so productive for starting the day. Yes I do have a trolley of clothes unused since 2020 but uniform brings a sense of commonness beyond all the differences. Although, the intention for the dress-style was more towards the plant and employee identification rather the employee productivity.❤
  • P&G has a small canteen providing free food (breakfast and lunch) like college mess #nostalgia. Defined 1/3 protein, 1/3 vitamins, 1/3 nutrients rich food ❤! I know, it’s crazy. Free fancy food is great too but this makes me feel grounded. You know what I mean?
  • P&G has targets (KPI) at various places in the office, like conference rooms, cafeteria and even the mess canteen. Instead of some random quotes by great people, which are barely motivational around a toxic culture (you know who), it is a great reminder to increase performance and improve business conduct.
  • However, P&G doesn’t compromise with employee onboarding/travel experience. Of course, it is a veteran organization.
  • TVs talking about the business in numbers and promoting IT security education. This was a refreshing view when I recalled a 12sqft screen displaying videography of building construction or employee ADs that add very little value to any employee watching.
  • No free stationery. You need something? Take it from the concerned person. This may be negligible cost to the company but it sure promotes employee ethics ❤

Ending notes😊:

  • I like this optimal life. There is always a vibe certain structure gives. And this is mine. With the coding background, I am fundamentally trained to optimize the problem-solving. And nothing so far about P&G has been contradictive to that mindset. With the fear of jinxing it, I wish P&G may help me find the ultimate solace in my career. Touchwood!
